Samudrik Shastra (सामुद्रिक शास्त्र), the ancient Indian science of body reading, is one of the oldest predictive disciplines recorded in human history. Its palmistry branch — known as Hasta Rekha Shastra (हस्तरेखा शास्त्र) — studies the lines, mounts, shapes, and markings on the human hand as a living map of an individual's karmic blueprint. Ancient texts like Hasta Sanjeevani and references in the Garuda Purana describe palmistry not as fortune-telling but as a diagnostic tool: just as a physician reads symptoms on the body, a Samudrik expert reads the energetic signatures inscribed on the palm. The dominant hand reveals your active, evolving karma, while the non-dominant hand preserves the original blueprint your soul arrived with.
What distinguishes Indian palmistry from Western chirognomy is its deep integration with the Navagraha (nine planetary) system of Jyotish. Each of the seven mounts on the palm corresponds to a specific planet — the Mount of Jupiter (index finger) governs ambition and spiritual wisdom, the Mount of Saturn (middle finger) reflects discipline and karmic debts, the Mount of Sun (ring finger) indicates fame and creativity, and so on. The four major lines (Life, Head, Heart, and Fate) function as planetary highways through which cosmic energy flows across different life domains. Special markings such as the Mystic Cross, Fish sign, or Trident amplify specific planetary influences. This planetary architecture means that palmistry and Jyotish are not separate sciences — they are complementary lenses through which the same cosmic reality is observed and interpreted.
