In Samudrik Shastra, the mounts of the palm represent the physical landscape of your hand. Just as planets rule houses in a birth chart, they rule these fleshy pads of the hand. By checking their height, texture, and firmness, you can read which planetary frequencies operate strongly in your life.
Figure 1: The Planetary Mounts of the Palm (Guru, Shani, Surya, Budh, Mangal, Shukra, and Chandra Parvat). Their relative elevation, firmness, and texture reveal the prominent planetary strengths operating in your life.
In ancient Indian hand reading, the hand is treated as a **three-dimensional map of energy**. When the subtle electromagnetic currents of the body flow through the palm, they gather in specific areas, causing the tissue underneath to expand or contract.
A highly raised, firm mount shows that the corresponding planet's energies (e.g. Jupiter for wisdom, Mercury for intellect) are active, stable, and readily available for your use. A flat or hollow mount shows that the planetary energy is dormant or blocked.
1. Firmness Test: Press the mount gently with your opposite thumb. A firm mount indicates high resilience. A spongy or soft mount indicates lazy or scattered energy.
2. Height Test: Hold your hand at eye level horizontally. Check which mounts rise like small hills and which ones are flat.
Deconstruct the seven mounts, mapping their locations, planetary rulers, qualities, and reading results.
The small lines crossing, vertical, or forming symbols on these mounts carry immense value in Vedic Samudrik readings:
Single or double vertical lines running straight up a mount act like conduits, pulling down cosmic energy. They represent positive growth, financial gains, or exceptional talents in that planet's field.
Horizontal lines cutting across a mount act like dams blocking a river. They represent stress, structural blockages, delays, or deep emotional fatigue caused by that planet's department in life.
