Lord Kartikeya (also widely celebrated as **Murugan**, **Skanda**, and **Subrahmanya**) was born from the sparks of Lord Shiva's third eye. His birth was dedicated to a single purpose: to defeat **Tarakasura**, a demon representing internal stagnation and spiritual lethargy. In Vedic symbolism, Kartikeya is the commander of Deva forces, which means he represents the disciplined willpower required to combat our own lower instincts (Asuras).
His cosmic history is profound. In the Southern traditions of India, he is revered as the Lord of Tamil language and the protector of hilly regions. The six sacred temples dedicated to him, known as **Arupadaiveedu**, represent the six energy centers (Chakras) along the human spine.
The physical features and vehicles of Kartikeya hold profound lessons for everyday life:
The sacred spear gifted by his mother Parvati. It represents deep wisdom (Jnana) and focus. The broad blade shows wide intellect, the sharp tip shows focused concentration, and the long shaft shows deep vision.
A peacock represents pride and ego (as it loves to show off). By riding the peacock, Kartikeya symbolizes the absolute conquest over pride, turning vanity into a vehicle for divine work.
Representing the control over the five senses and the mind. It also represents his mastery over the six cardinal directions of the cosmos.
