Bhavat Bhavam is a foundational technique where a house is analyzed by counting the same number of houses from itself. E.g., the 8th house rules longevity; counting 8 houses from the 8th leads to the 3rd house — making the 3rd house a secondary indicator of longevity and physical vitality.
Kendra houses are the 1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th houses. They form the central pillars of the birth chart. In Vedic symbolism, they are called Vishnu Sthanas because Lord Vishnu represents preservation and action; planets in Kendras provide concrete physical support to preserve your life.
Trikona houses are the 1st, 5th, and 9th houses. They represent the three points of divine grace and fortune. Called Lakshmi Sthanas, they carry past-life merits (Purva Punya), intelligence, and natural luck. Conjunctions between Kendra lords and Trikona lords create powerful Raj Yogas.
Dusthana houses are the 6th (debts/disease), 8th (sudden transformations/death), and 12th (losses/isolation). While challenging for material ease, they are essential for spiritual detachment, endurance, and deep transformation.
Upachaya means 'growth over time'. Planets placed in the 3rd, 6th, 10th, and 11th houses improve with age and effort. Malefic planets (Saturn, Mars, Rahu, Sun) perform exceptionally well in Upachaya houses by conquering obstacles.
The Kalapurusha maps the 12 houses to the body of the Cosmic Being starting from Aries (1st house = Head) down to Pisces (12th house = Feet). Afflictions to a specific house or its ruler indicate physical vulnerabilities in that corresponding body part.
Planets gain directional strength in specific houses: Mercury and Jupiter gain Digbala in the 1st house (East); Sun and Mars in the 10th house (South); Saturn in the 7th house (West); Moon and Venus in the 4th house (North).
To judge a house (e.g. 4th house of mother), you must analyze 3 elements: (1) Bhav: planets inside the house; (2) Bhavesh: where the ruler of the house is sitting; (3) Karaka: natural signifier planet (Moon for 4th house). All 3 must be evaluated together.
